To see waether information from the Rancho Capistrano area go to www.jonesranch.net. The weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro. It is mounted on a pole down by the Horse barn. The data collected at the station is sent wirelessly to a console in the house every two minutes. Within another few minutes this data is sent to the www.jonesranch.net website, so weather data is usually less than four minutes old. Wind speed data seems low, probably because the gauge is not mounted high enough (should be 30' above ground with no obstructions) and is surrounded by trees.
Data collection began on 11/6/04. I populated the accumulated rainfall data with 10.14 inches to reflect the amount of rain the ranch has had since the season started on July 2004. This amount I got from a neighbor that has been keeping track using a rain gauge.
We had a problem with the software locking up the FTP transfers so I reloaded the weather software with the latest version, this fixed that problem. The new software came with a bunch of new features that made the site pretty cool. Our site is now connected into the Weather Underground Network, this is a worldwide grid of private weather stations like ours. Being a part of wunderground.com gives us access to some pretty sophisticated weather analysis based on the data we capture, so we now have features like GPS and altitude based weather forecasts that give us predictions based on our location. We are using the Wunderground rapid fire feature, so the weather data on their site is only a few seconds delayed (if everything is working right).
If you do a Google search for "El Cariso Weather" or "Rancho Capistrano weather" our weather site will be among the first returns.
Tried many things to get the station temperature... but your station ID is only working on the very large image option and not the smaller one. Any advice?
Hi, I'm doing some climate research for the Santa Ana Mountains and was wondering if you have any historical data for minimum temperatures from March 1 through May 1. If you can help me, please let me know.
